Azzle's Top Summer Tips
Azzle's Top Summer Tips
Week 4
I would first of all like to apologise for the lateness of this week’s Top Tips, this is due to a small confusion my end. Also the Islander will be published soon so have no worries on that.
The weather is starting to improve again here in the UK, which is great news, and thanks guys for all your submissions of tips. You will have received 10 points if your tip is mentioned. To find out to submit a top tip, read the last paragraph of this article.
Burns and Bites
When I went to Spain a couple of weeks ago, I was continuously eaten by mosquitoes, they were very itchy and painful, so I thought I would first share some tips for you to help relieve that pain. These tips can be useful abroad or in the UK as we have these flesh eating insects in our country too.
When going out on a hot day or when going near water, always put on some insect repellent. It may not work 100% but it can help reduce the amount of bites, it's probably the smell of the repellent that stops them biting you! I walked around Spain smelling like sherbet lemons!
When you have been bitten, try putting a perfume on those itching bites (please check the label to make sure you're not allergic to any of the ingredients) as perfume has alcohol in it which alcohol helps heal skin. That is what aftershave was invented for, when shaving, you would put aftershave on (which has alcohol in) to clean the cuts and stop them getting infected.
Also, I was given this tip by a friend: put a blob of toothpaste on the bite before you go to bed (it's not the ideal thing to do during the day, walking around with toothpaste on your leg) and wash it off in the morning. This will dry out the bite and should help it stop itching.
Remember to always wear sun tan lotion when going out in the sun. See my first article for more information on sun tan lotion by click HERE. If you don't you could get badly burnt which can lead onto skin cancer. If you do get burnt, you can tend to it by purchasing after sun from any beauty store or pharmacist.
Misskinky78 says "when sunburnt make sure you put after sun or aloe Vera gel on your burns" and in reply DANCER says "Yes, misskinky is right. Take care of your sunburn... Actually, you can also put plain yogurt on sunburn if you don't have anything else! Yogurt can come in handy in a hot country as good for the outside and also good for the inside if your tum feeling icky! And that Aloe Vera gel is amazing stuff. You can even snap a leaf from the Aloe plant and use the gel straight from that. Just be careful they are SO prickly."
They're a couple of interesting tips; I will have to keep them in mind. Thank you.
Keeping Cool This Summer
When being active in the house, whether it be house work or doing your yoga, it can be quite hot, so I suggest opening all your windows in the room you are in and try and have a desktop fan going. Also, try playing loud music that you enjoy as this can distract you from the heat and it makes doing these activities a little bit more fun!
Superb shares with us a small anecdote of his experiences of keeping cool:
"I stayed in Israel a few years ago and visited the 'Sinai Desert' which was absolutely boiling hot, 40 degrees plus, the Bedouin’s wore top to toe clothing, I believe they call it a burnoose, if this can keep you cool in the desert then let’s all go buy one :-)"
Thanks for that Superb! I would love one of those. For those who do not know what a burnoose looks like, here's a picture from www.MoroccanCaravan.com:
TMan says: "I know it goes without saying, but remember to wear a hat on sunny days and don't keep your back to the sun... The last thing you want from a nice day out is sun stroke, keep safe!"
My main tip for keeping cool in the summer is wearing white clothing. You may notice when where dark clothing in the sun, the item of clothing can get quite hot, this is because dark colours absorb heat whereas white clothing reflects heat, therefore effectively keeping you cool.
Azzle's Top Summer Tip
As this is the forth article of Top Tips (Meaning that this has been going a month) I have decided to post my top tip of the month.
As the sun can make your hair brittle and dry, try out this potion. Mix one banana, one tablespoon of honey and 200ml of milk together and work through hair for 30 minutes. As it's packed with vitamins A, B and C and natural oils, it is perfect to make your hair restore elasticity and smooth frazzled tips. Also, if you have any of this serum left, it's a great tasty treat!
