Avoiding Scams
Club Tropica has enhanced scam prevention software which will help keep your account safe, this protection is enhanced even further with the features available in Bolt-on features. No-one can log into your account unless they know your password and to access some features (Such as online banking), they also need to know your account pin. These two pieces of information should be kept as secure as possible; you should NEVER revile them to anyone. That said, there are still those who would try to trick you into reviling your password and pin, we call them scammers.
A lot of the information on this page is going to sound like common sense and you might think we're patronising you by asking you to read it, BUT... We care about you and your Club Tropica account, we don't want you to spend money only to have some nasty scammer come and steal everything YOU have paid for. You would be surprised how many people fall for these scams. So, don't think of it as us patronising you, think of it as us trying to keep your account and virtual belongings as safe as possible and please take ten minutes to read some of the more common scams we have listed below for you.
Password Scams
If someone knows your password then they can log into your Club Tropica account and tinker with your home page, send emails, etc... If they know your password AND your pin then they can log into your Club Tropica account, steal your credits/Isla, and purchase using your Direct Debit Mandates. They could even break the site rules and get your account banned.
Keep your password and pin safe, NEVER revile them to anyone. The only place you should ever type your password is the 'log in' box on http://www.clubtropica.com/. We will never ask for it anywhere else.
The same goes for your pin, you will be asked to enter it when you first load certain sections such as Online Banking and making payments, never enter it anywhere else!
Here are some of the more common password scams:
- Filtered Passwords/Pins - Various parts of the Club Tropica Website are equipped with a word filter that will remove some of the stronger swear words and other words we don't think everyone wants to see. Scammers have been known to tell users that their password and/or pin are included in that filter and encourage them to try saying them. Passwords and pins are NOT included in the filter, if we included every users password then very soon there would be no words left unfiltered. The person telling you is trying to discover your password and/or pin, just click to block user then click 'Report User/Message/Entry' to let the online Moderator know what the individual is up too.
- Claiming To Work For Club Tropica - Some Club Tropica users think they can tell another user they work for Club Tropica and then ask for the users password and pin either to help them with some account problem or because they are going to make them a Moderator or Isola (Volunteer Moderator), they are fibbing. Club Tropica staff members and Isola will never ask you for your password or pin, just click to block them then send a 'Report User' call to let the online Moderator know what the individual is up too.
- Change Your Password/Pin - If someone tells you to change your password and/or pin to something specific then they are trying to access your account. Club Tropica staff members have electronic tools that can reset your password and pin if they think your account is at risk, they would never ask you to change them to something specific. The person asking is trying to scam you, just click to ignore them then send a 'Report User' call to let the online Moderator know what the individual is up too.
Email Scams
As with passwords and pins, Club Tropica has added extra levels of account security to protect your account from scammers who might try to exploit emails. All Club Tropica accounts come with a Club Tropica email account/inbox. Club Tropica will send all official correspondence to that email account. We will only send emails to the email address to provided at registration when we verify that email during registration, or when you have unread mail in your Club Tropica email in-box and it has not been accessed for five or more days. That said, there are still those that will try to steal your account using email scams;
Here are some of the more common email scams:
- Phishing Emails - Club Tropica will NEVER email you and ask for your password or pin but, scammers will. Most of these emails will take the form of a 'security check' or something similar where they say they need to verify your account details. If you receive any email that claims to be from Club Tropica asking for your password and/or pin then it's a scam, just delete it.
Isla Scams
Isla are the Islands currency and because they cost real money to buy, there are a lot of scammers that would much rather just try and steal other peoples than buy their own. Club Tropica has enabled Isla trading, so scams in this area should be virtually impossible if you use the safe Online Banking.
Here are some of the more common Isla scams:
- Voucher Codes - NEVER trade for a voucher code; always ask the person to redeem it and then trade for the Isla by doing an Online Banking Transfer, the code they are trading might just be random numbers and letters or it might have already been redeemed.
Website Scams
Some users will make websites that either look like Club Tropica or claim to be affiliated with Club Tropica, they use these sites to try and trick you into giving them your password and pin so, they can access your account and steal your Furniture and Isla. That said, not all websites are bad but, you need to be on the lookout for 'scamsites', here are some of the more common website scams;
Here are some of the more common website scams:
- Sign In For Freebies - These sites offer free Isla or Furniture in return for you user name, password and pin. They might claim to work for Club Tropica or be affiliated with the site in some way but, they are not and they are just trying to steal your account and Isla. If you come across one of these sites send an 'emergency assistance' call to let the online Moderator know the URL and then close the webpage.
- The All New Club Tropica - We all want something better, that's why we at Club Tropica are constantly working to try and improve the site for you, but some scammers pretend that it's already here, they will make a site that looks like Club Tropica and claim it is Club Tropica Two or the all new Club Tropica, they might even have the same 'log-in' screen but, they are just trying to steal your account and Isla. If you come across one of these sites send an 'emergency assistance' call to let the online Moderator know the URL and then close the webpage.
